Thanks to Pat Osborne for posting the images of Skomer –
some lovely memories.
By coincidence Anne and I were also in
Pembrokeshire over the May Day bank holiday weekend, and did a few walks along
the stunning coastal path. One walk took us from the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy
to Porthgain. The Blue Lagoon is an old slate quarry that was intentionally
‘opened’ to the sea by blasting a number of years ago. It is now a 25 metre
deep lagoon which is used for the Red Bull Diving Championships (well worth
checking out on YouTube), and has also featured in a number of films and TV
programmes. Porthgain is still a small working harbour, and also has a rich
industrial heritage with further slate mines and the remains of an old, but
substantial brick works. Another of our walks took us to Slebech Park, which is
a private estate with a small boutique hotel and a terrace looking on to the
estuary where you can have an incredibly peaceful lunch
