If you've become bored with the glossy 'how to' mags that dominate the book shelves; all continually repeating the same old techniques that you can get from one good book there is a small, almost underground, publication devoted to 'why' people make images. No technique articles or equipment reviews just some of the subcribers explaining why they made their images, yes this mag is by the readers for the readers. Many of those readers have never been in a camera club or entered a club exhibition but that does not mean say they are not good photographers, just that they have a different out look to those producing judge fodder. Their images can be quirky, often controversial and thought provoking but always personal. Each issue has a theme which is announced in the previous issue. It's quite interesting to see the different interpretations put on something as simple as 'walking'. This little gem has been going for 22 years, I've got every issue including the pilot Bill Bishop the editor put out to see if there was any interest. From a few hundred readers it's grown to be international with readers from the States to Australia.
So what's this mag called and how do you get it 'cos it ain't on Smiths shelves.
It's INSCAPE and it costs £15 for 4 issues post paid (£12 for concessions).
